News release: South Korea and Japan to Strengthen Hydrogen Cooperations

Trade, Industry and Energy Ministry’s Director-General for Hydrogen Economy Policy Bureau Lee Ok-heon met with Hiro Inoue, Japan’s Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry (METI)’s Director-General of the Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Department, to discuss measures for policy cooperation in hydrogen safety and related industries.

The director-generals agreed on the need for hydrogen energy in the shared goal of achieving carbon neutrality and exchanged views on Korea’s Hydrogen Safety Management Roadmap 2.0 and Japan’s revised Hydrogen Basic Strategy. The two sides plan to bolster policy cooperation in hydrogen industries and safety on the occasion of this meeting.

Meanwhile, Korean Gas Safety (KGS) and the High Pressure Gas Safety Institute of Japan (KHK) are also holding a regular meeting from June 20-21 to share hydrogen safety management systems, gas accident cases, and prevention measures.

During the meeting schedule, the representatives of KGS and KHK plan to visit the Hydrogen Safety Museum and the Energy Safety Demonstration Research Center, which are some of the hydrogen gas safety infrastructures operated by KGS within Korea.
