Manchester Airport has teamed with the government-backed North West England industrial decarbonisation project HyNet on plans to become the first UK airport with a direct supply of low carbon hydrogen fuel.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the airport and Progressive Energy and Cadent, two of the founding members of HyNet. Progressive Energy works on developing projects to decarbonise the energy sector and Cadent is building and will operate HyNet’s hydrogen pipeline network.
The MoU will enable the partners to begin delivering hydrogen to the aviation sector at the earliest opportunity. The first instance will be a direct pipeline connection to Manchester Airport, being developed by HyNet.
