AFC Energy PLC said the first trial of its prototype methanol fuel tower with construction group ACCIONA in Spain has been a success.
In what it said was a short field trial, the tower generated on-site hydrogen from methanol to power ACCIONA’s site compound at Alcalá del Valle.
Methanol and ammonia are seen as key to supplying sustainable off-grid power in locations where hydrogen is uneconomic to transport or store.
The tower had already operated for over 100 continuous hours alongside fuel cell platforms before shipment to Spain, AFC added.
